Our Multi-Event weekend (MEW for short) is primarily a relaxed social event focused around our Passion for Porsche’s. Our goal is to provide a fun weekend in a great location that combines all the elements we know you will enjoy. There really is something for everybody. We start on Friday evening with a reception in the event hotel, so you can relax after a hard week’s work with a drink or two and some finger foods, while you get to know your fellow club members. Throughout the evening you can survey the ‘goodies’ that will be sold to the highest bidder at the end of the evening during our fun auction.
On Saturday morning ...
enjoy a leisurely breakfast and join us in the secured “Porsche” parking lot for the ‘Show-and-Shine’ portion of our program. Nothing too serious in the way of preparation is required and Q-Tips are definitely frowned upon. The aim is to show off your pride and joy without the hassle of white gloved judges tut-tutting about the dust in your seat stitching! This is strictly a Popularity Vote so you can select the car you like best based on your own criteria. Those that don’t wish to participate are welcome to enjoy the many facilities at the White Oaks Resort that include an excellent fitness facility complete with Tennis and Squash courts for the more energetic. For those seeking less strenuous activity, the excellent Spa can cater to your body and soul. Lunch is at your choosing either from the three in-house restaurants or local eateries.
After lunch we gather again in the parking area for the start of our Road Rally. Again this is strictly a fun and non-timed event with the aim being to drive your car at moderate speeds and enjoy some of the finest scenery in Southern Ontario as you tour Niagara’s wine country. All the roads will be paved so no worries about pock-marking the paintwork on your P-Car. There will be some ‘challenges’ along the way to make it interesting and a few stops to stretch your legs.
Once you have successfully navigated the rally, you will find yourself back at White Oaks and ready for our Fun Driving Event. For this event you won’t need your Porsche. Not even we know what it will entail right now, but we guarantee you (and we) will have a lot of fun! After this you will have time to freshen up and relax as you look forward to a social evening.
A cocktail hour precedes the Dinner & Dance that caps our Saturday MEW activities, with another chance to socialize and reflect on the day’s fun and games. The venue promises excellent food and a comfortable ambiance to relax and talk with great music and a dance floor to boogie the night away, if you are so inclined.
Sunday morning ‘officially’ starts at an entirely respectable 10:30am with our Awards Brunch. Once more you are provided great food and the opportunity to find out how well you did at the three MEW challenges, Show-and-Shine, Rally and Driving event. The presentations are our chance to provide some of the inevitable ‘stories’ behind the activities and to celebrate the winners. The brunch usually wraps up shortly after noon, so you should still have time to explore the area before heading home after another memorable Porsche weekend.
About our MEW team:
Co-Hosts Ian John & Andy Wright have both been involved with UCR since 1992 and have each held various administrative positions in the Club over those 18+ years. Currently they are very involved with the Driver Education programme as members of the Track Team and instructors. They met in the late 1970’s as members of the local Austin-Healey Club and during their many years there helped organise over a dozen annual Multi-event weekends. Bringing that same enthusiasm to the Porsche Club, Ian and Andy hosted the first UCR MEW in 1998 at the Pillar and Post Inn in Niagara-on-the-Lake, followed by a repeat event in 1999 and another at the Festival Inn, Stratford in 2000.
Sajjad Butt is UCR’s Rally Chairperson and has organized a number of successful rally events over the last couple of years. With a lot of experience from both behind the wheel and in event administration, Sajjad knows what makes a rally challenging but fun for the participants. With the scenic beauty of the Niagara region and some great driving roads at his disposal, we can look forward to another great event.
Laurel Ward personifies the word “enthusiasm” in regard to UCR Club activities. Laurel is a Director of the Club and a participant in just about every type of Club activity. Also an avid “Trackie” she can be found at most of our (and some other PCA regions) Driver Education events throughout the year. Laurel is the dynamo behind this year’s MEW event and she possesses great persuasive powers, as Ian and Andy will attest!
Our Venue:
The White Oaks Conference Resort & Spa is located between St. Catharines and Niagara Falls and holds a reputation as a 4-Diamond 5-Star facility, both in terms of service and amenities. For hotel registration please click.
